Hantus are nature spirits manifested in forms related to their environments. They are best known in the Minatan isles of Rendah Pulu, where locals interpret hantus' presence as reflecting their own lingering fears and anxieties.1

Appearance

Hantus are incorporeal spirits, have no defined appearance, and can take the form of any natural object or being. They are loosely classified by common traits, such as hantu denais formed from overhunted grounds who stalk hunters, or chaotic hantu belians who take the form of a tiger accompanied by a bird.1

While incorporeal, hantus they leave corporeal traces, such as scents, droppings, or shedding.1

Ecology

Hantus form from the spirits that inhabit all things and can therefore appear in any natural environment. Their personalities and behaviors vary based on the circumstances of their formation and environment.1
