Uintatheriums are bizarre animals resembling rhinoceroses with skulls adorned by small, bony ridges and long fangs resembling those of a smilodon. Despite their fearsome dentition, uintatheriums are herbivores—their fangs are used chiefly for defense against predators and in territorial contests between males. Uintatheriums are powerful animals, often standing nearly six feet tall and topping two tons in weight, but they are also small-brained and comparatively dim-witted creatures. As a result of their lack of mental acumen and a resulting tendency towards placidity, uintatheriums are one of the most easily domesticated varieties of megafauna.1
