Gold is a bright yellow, dense, soft, malleable and ductile metal. It is used for currency universally.1

Alchemical reagent

Gold is an alchemical reagent in its purified form that is used in alchemical recipes. As an alchemical power component, it is associated with boosting the effectiveness of healing spells. The alchemical symbol for gold is identical to that of the Sun.23 One dose of gold costs five gold pieces.[citation needed]

Medina Mudii'a

In Medina Mudii'a on the Elemental Plane of Fire, gold is mostly discounted as currency due to its plentifulness on the plane and, practically, because of the metal's low melting point.4

  3. Paizo has not drawn out the significance of this, but such linking of alchemy and astronomy was common in real-world alchemy and is clearly not a coincidence. Indeed, this particular example is analogous to gold having an alchemical symbol identical to the symbol for the sun in our solar system.
