The executioner's hood is actually not a distinct creature, but merely the young form of the lurking ray. When executioner's hoods grow into adulthood, they take on two sexually dimorphic forms which are generally thought of as different species: females are known as trappers, while the males are referred to as lurkers above.^[1]
