Vargouille

From PathfinderWiki
Vargouille
A vargouille.
(Creature)

Vargouilles are grotesque flying heads with bat-like wings originally from Abaddon. Despite their otherworldly origins they are active in the Universe, especially near old battlefields, graveyards, or other locations that have seen much death.1 Their putrid kiss can transform their victims into vargouilles.21

Appearance

A vargouille is a large bat-winged humanoid head with venomous fangs, a long snaking tongue, and tentacle-like appendages. Most measure 12 to 20 inches in height and have a wingspan of between 15 and 35 inches.1

Abilities

Vargouilles' jaws can stretch to emit a disorienting shriek capable of paralyzing those who can hear it, and their venom contains a necromantic curse that stymies healing attempts. However, they are most infamous for their diseased kiss, in which they perform a lover's mockery with a helpless or willing humanoid being. This passes an infection that kills the afflicted person and transforms them into a vargouille within 8 hours, but only if left untreated and if the afflicted person is no longer in sunlight.1

On Golarion

Vargouilles have menaced parts of Andoran,34 Kaer Maga,5 and the Mwangi Expanse.6

The Blakros Museum once had a collection from the Mwangi Expanse that contained vargouilles cursed to take the forms of mundane objects.7

Vargouilles can be summoned by certain spellcasters.8
