The Saoc Brethren are an organisation of astrological philosophers named after Saoc, the founder of Lirgen. They ruled their homeland that was once located in western Garund, where the northern half of the Sodden Lands lies today.1

History

Dependent on prophesy, the death of Aroden in 4606 AR that ushered in the Age of Lost Omens proved a double blow for the Saoc Brethren. Not only did the new age cause their powers of prophesy to fail, but the storms and floods created by the Eye of Abendego (which appeared just after Aroden's death) just off the coast of Lirgen destroyed their homeland and scattered the survivors throughout the region.2

In 4615 AR, the entire leadership of the Brethren committed suicide. Some say that whatever answers they found in the Sodden Lands proved too hard for them to bear.3

Space program

The Bretheren sponsored Gelviel Zorriah and his magical spaceship, the Lirgen's Glory, which launched from Oagon in 4600 AR.4

Saoc Brethren today

The organisation has survived to the present and the descendants of its original members sometimes return to the Sodden Lands to search for a means of extinguishing the Eye and restoring their lost homeland. Conditions there make this far from easy, and experience frequently shatters the minds of those who manage to survive the physical dangers.3
