Ninkondas, also called nail angels, are a class of angels transformed from archons that hunt and encourage the redemption of formerly good mortals.1

Appearance

A ninkonda appears to be a winged knight wearing full plate armour with a broad mirror on its chest. Dozens of large metal spikes impale their arms, shoulders and hands, and the faceplate of its helm is smooth and featureless, topped by a golden crown. The armour is the actual skin of the ninkonda, who is far more graceful than its cumbersome appearance would suggest. Ninkondas are faceless, stand 12 feet tall with wingspans of just over 25 feet, and weigh about 1,200 pounds.1

Ecology

Ninkondas originate from the ranks of archons who lived mortal lives of startling wickedness before repenting of their evil ways. A few of these archons dwell on their dimly remembered crimes which vex their thoughts until they decide that redeeming mortals is a higher calling than serving Heaven. When such archons advance, they become ninkondas.1

The spikes that impale ninkondas are physical manifestations of their crimes as mortals. They only cause a constant dull ache, which is embraced as an ever-present reminder of how wickedness can be overcome. The reflection in the mirror across a ninkonda's chest is always hazy, as it shows spiritual truth rather than physical reality.1

Ninkondas search for evil mortals who might harbour a spark of goodness and pursue their quarry tirelessly. The target's irredeemable lackeys like fiends or undead are destroyed, while the mortals are confronted with the ninkonda's mirror, which displays the stains on their souls and the repercussions of all their past transgressions. For the truly repentant, the ninkonda offers atonement and helps them with redemption.1

Society

Ninkondas are few in number and prefer to work alone. Against groups that fell into evil together, ninkondas work in small squads, hoping to redeem all of them at once. In such squads, ninkondas usually defer to the most experienced member.1
