The Mother of Thorns is a pakalchi sahkil employed by the Gray Maidens to do the final step of the indoctrination of each new member: applying a wound that mars the initiate's beauty and gives her a unique scar when healed. Particularly obstinate recruits are also sent to the Mother of Thorns, who breaks them with her mind-numbing venom and mind-controlling magic.^[1]
