Mederachs are a species of spider-like outsiders native to Elysium, the good counterpart to the bebiliths of the Outer Rifts.1

Appearance

Mederachs have shining compound eyes, silver-tipped legs and massive mandibles. They are typically ten feet tall and weigh about 2,000 pounds.1

History

In prehistoric times, mederachs spent all their time on Elysium as healers and mentors to their neighbours. As societies formed on the Material Plane, mederachs became fascinated with mortals, and came to believe that mortal souls are inherently good but can easily be corrupted into evil. During the Age of Darkness, mederachs learnt about the evil that befell Golarion: the falling of the Starstone, the collapse of Azlant and Thassilon, and the rampage of Treerazer. Seeing these events as a threat to the mortals, mederachs began training in plane-shifting and started to come regularly to Golarion to fight evil, or to the source of such evil to work on mortals' behalf.1

Ecology

Mederachs spend their time at home participating in mock hunts with the quarry being volunteer Elysian natives, believing this to be necessary to fight evil. They do not stay in Elysium for long, preferring to make use of their skills in the Material Plane or in the Outer Rifts.1

Mederachs believe that most evil creatures can be redeemed and usually prefer to subdue prey with non-lethal force so that they have a chance to be turned to good rather than destroying them outright. Against such foes, they relate grand tales of supposedly irredeemable tyrants who saw the error of their ways. The exceptions to this are mindless evil creatures, whom they see as mere shells, and evil arachnids, especially bebiliths, whose malevolence is seen as a mockery of the mederachs' good.1

Mederachs hunt like web-spinning spiders, ambushing prey with a nigh-invisible web. When travelling among companions who might fear their true forms or mistake them for bebiliths, mederachs use their shapechanging ability to appear as animals with subtle arachnid features.1

Society

Mederachs are conversational and friendly, and enjoy recounting their journeys and accomplishments to other mederachs. They also like discussing intricate web patterns based on designs they have witnessed. All mederachs see others of their kind and fellow good outsiders as equals, but tend to consider lawful good ones like archons too rigid. Archons in turn consider mederachs as overly idealistic and optimistic, but are still willing to ally with them, though such collaborations only last until the mutual goal is achieved.1

Mederachs see neutral good outsiders as helpful, particularly agathions, whom they usually accompany on ambassadorial missions to other planes. They also frequently work with angels, who usually intimidate the evil creatures whom mederachs seek to redeem, but mederachs are also sometimes in discord with the angels' inscrutable goals.1

Of the celestials, mederachs have the most in common with azatas, and make excellent partners: mederachs help the usually-unfocused azatas architect plans to champion good. Harming their azata companions is the best way to rile mederachs outside threatening another of their own.1
