Impaler shrikes are giant-sized versions of the common shrike that stand almost 9 feet in height and weigh about 125 pounds. Like their small cousins, impaler shrikes prefer to catch their prey in their beaks and then impale them upon branches, a large thorn, or even the sharp spire of a building. Once their victims are trapped in place, impaler shrikes take their time to pick them apart at their leisure. Due to their size, impaler shrikes prefer feeding upon small mammals such as cats or dogs, but occasionally attack humanoids as well. They are occasionally taken as animal companions.1
